About Coco

COCO — 2yo Female Rhodesian Ridgeback 🐕🐾♥️ A beautiful country girl with a whole world still waiting to be discovered ❤️ Meet Coco. Coco is a gorgeous red-wheaten Rhodesian Ridgeback girl who turns 2 in October, and while she may have had 800 acres around her, her world so far has actually been surprisingly small. Coco has grown up on a large rural property with her sister, living primarily in a shed/dog enclosure. She hasn’t really had the opportunity to experience much beyond farm life — she hasn’t been regularly walked on lead, hasn’t been around many other dogs, and hasn’t had the socialisation or everyday experiences most young dogs take for granted. So at almost two, Coco has a lot of catching up to do. And the lovely thing is, she seems more than ready for someone to show her. ❤️ Coco is described as a super sweet, lovely-natured girl who actively seeks out attention and affection. She’s young, athletic, energetic and clearly wants more from life — more interaction, more stimulation, more adventures and, most importantly, more time with her people. She currently lives with her female sibling. While the girls generally get along well, there have been some fights between them, and Coco may ultimately flourish having the opportunity to develop a life and identity of her own. A male Kelpie regularly comes onto the farm and Coco gets along well with him. Given her limited socialisation, however, introductions to new dogs will need to be sensible and gradual while she develops the social skills she simply hasn’t had much opportunity to learn. And then there’s Coco’s athletic ability! This girl is FIT. 😂 She regularly runs alongside the farm vehicle up and down the paddocks and certainly isn’t short on stamina. She’s a higher-energy Ridgeback who will need an active home prepared to give her an appropriate combination of physical exercise, mental stimulation and training. She’s also discovered that farm fences aren’t much of an obstacle when something interesting is happening on the other side. Standard rural/farm fencing won’t be suitable for Coco, so she will need a securely fenced house yard. More recently, Coco has started showing an interest in chasing the sheep and other livestock. Interestingly, this is something she has only recently begun doing, and we suspect boredom and a need for more stimulation may be playing a part. Coco is a young, intelligent, high-energy girl whose day-to-day world has been fairly limited despite having 800 acres around her. Whatever the reason, though, the behaviour now means her current farm environment is no longer suitable for her. For this reason, we’re looking for a home without livestock, or one where she can be completely and securely separated from them in a well-fenced house yard. For us, it’s another little sign that Coco is ready for more from life than paddocks and an enclosure — she needs interaction, training, stimulation and a world that includes her. ❤️ Coco is food motivated, has reportedly developed some recall, loves human attention and is comfortable being handled. But what she hasn’t learnt yet is just as important for her future family to understand. Coco hasn’t really been walked on lead, so lead training will be starting close to the beginning. Everyday outings, new environments, household life, meeting dogs appropriately and simply learning how to navigate the wider world may all be new experiences for her. But none of that makes Coco a difficult dog. It makes her an inexperienced one. She simply hasn’t been given the opportunity to learn yet. At not even two years old, Coco has plenty of time to discover what life can be with someone patient enough to teach her — someone who understands that those first weeks and months may involve plenty of “What on earth is THAT?” moments. 😂❤️ No cats, and preferably no livestock. If livestock are present, Coco will require a securely fenced house yard completely separate from them. What we really want for this girl is someone who can look beyond what Coco doesn’t know yet and see everything she has the potential to become. Because Coco isn’t looking for someone to undo a bad dog. She’s looking for someone to teach a very sweet young dog all the things she simply hasn’t had the chance to learn yet. She’s spent almost two years with 800 acres around her — but not nearly enough of the world to experience. Maybe it’s finally Coco’s turn to find out just how big that world can be 🐕🐾♥️
